Carie Johannsen
About Me
My name is Carie Johannsen and I have been in the education field in one way or another for 18 years. My personal experience in school was not the most positive experience. I did fine but never felt successful in school or felt like education was a means to something greater. I want to pass on the growth mindset and motivate those who want to give up on school because they don't "fit" the mold of a scholar.
My WHY
My why for teaching and for being in the M.ED Digital Learning and Leading program run parallel. I work with students in the virtual world that have given up on traditional education. They no longer believe in the education system. There are hundreds of fantastic schools and teachers; however, my students are the ones that have been lost in the shuffle or for one reason or another the traditional atmosphere is not conducive to their needs. My "why" for teaching is to reach the students that feel that the education system has failed them. My “why” is my belief that I can change student’s perspective on school and in particular their viewpoint on math.
