My why for teaching and for being in the M.ED Digital Learning and Leading program run parallel.  I work with students in the virtual world that have given up on traditional education.  They no longer believe in the education system.  There are hundreds of fantastic schools and teachers; however, my students are the ones that have been lost in the shuffle or for one reason or another the traditional atmosphere was not conducive to their needs.

My why for teaching is to reach the students that feel that the education system has let them down.  My “why” is my belief that I can change student’s perspective on school and in particular their viewpoint on math.

Simon Sinek words “It was I Have a Dream NOT I have a Plan” was something that spoke to me.  In teaching many times, we fall into “our plans.”  “Our plan to get students to pass the state test is…“, “Our plan to get students more involved in…”, “Our plan to incorporate more technology is…”  To say “I aspire for my students to have a growth mindset, to desire to dig deeper into learning, and to use technology to enhance their education so that they will have confidence where they once had anxiety and fear” is a much stronger point of view.

My Why and Six Sources Strategy

Why- We believe all learners deserve a safe, effective, and individualized educational experience.

How- We create a learning environment, where we engage with the learner and their families, by using technology to enhance reflective and meaningful collaboration.

What- We prepare learners to embrace the future by leveraging technology to enhance their learning.

Speaking to the Heart:

There is nothing more personal or more urgent in a parent’s heart and mind than the safety and success of their child.  Whether they come to us due to religious reasons, to have a one on one education, a career athlete, or to find peace from severe bullying we are here to give families a safe and individual educational experience. In the virtual school setting, we are creating a choice that can change a student’s path. We create a learning environment, where we engage with the learner and their families, by using technology to enhance reflective and meaningful collaboration. We empower our students and families by teaching them to embrace the future by leveraging technology and education.
